In this guide, we will show you two different methods through which you can enable the Get Image Descriptions feature on Chrome. Publishers and content creators are always recommended to have an Alt Image as it provides better image context/descriptions for the visually impaired and also helps the search engine crawlers to help them index and rank images.

However, there are many images across the web that don’t have a proper alt image, thereby leaving many users unable to identify the context of that image, especially in places where there are network connectivity issues and the image is unable to properly load. In such instances, an Alt text is the only medium through which one could identify what that image was all about.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of description, many users have to face a tough time. Fortunately, Google seems to have taken note of the same by adding the “Get Image Descriptions” feature in its Chrome browser. And in this guide, we will make you aware of the steps to enable it on your device. So without further ado, let’s get started.

How to Enable “Get Image Descriptions” on Chrome

There exist two different methods through which you could get this job done. But before starting with any of these two methods, make sure to install the Reading Mode app on your device. Once done, let’s get started.

Method 1

  1. Launch Chrome and tap on the overflow icon at the top right.
  2. You should see the “Get Image Descriptions” option, tap on it.get image description chrome
  3. You’ll get another prompt, select either Just Once or Always:
For one page: Select ‘Just once’ and tap ‘Get descriptions.’
For all pages: Choose ‘Always’ and tap on ‘Get descriptions.’
  4. You should now get the results in a few seconds.

Method 2

  1. Launch Chrome and tap on the overflow icon at the top right.
  2. Then select Settings > Accessibility and enable Get Image Descriptions.
  3. Finally, enable the toggle next to the Get Image Descriptions.get image description chrome

Could this be the new Game Changing Feature?

There might have been numerous instances wherein you would come across an image but are unable to get hold of its context or content. Well, you could now put all these issues to rest as this new handy feature will completely streamline the process. All that is needed is just a couple of taps and the feature will bring in the required information right in front of you.

With that said, this feature is already present there in one of the Silicon Valley giant’s own apps [any guesses?] which is Google Lens. So why would someone use the new Image description feature instead of Google Lens? Well, there could be quite a few reasons for the same. First off, not many users would be comfortable installing an additional app on their device just for this very purpose [apart from Pixel, most Android devices don’t come with the Lens app preinstalled].

Moreover, to supply the image to Google Lens, you might have to first take a screenshot of the same, which is necessarily not the case with the feature from Chrome. So owing to all these reasons, we will mgith see more users being inclined towards the feature from Chrome rather than Lens. With that said, this functionality was recently introduced so it might take a while before everyone is made aware of the same. Until then, we might still see the Lens app dominating the usage charts.

On that note, we round off this guide on how you could enable the Get Image Descriptions feature in Chrome. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution as soon as possible.
