In this guide, we will show you the steps to extract the boot.img.lz4 or the recovery.img.lz4 and get their resultant stock boot.img/recovery.img. When it comes to stock firmware, then OEMs pack their partition files in different compression formats. For instance, Xiaomi [Fastboot ROM] has it as .TGZ [followed by .TAR] which could be extracted via 7ZIP, Pixel [Factory Image] has it in just a normal ZIP file which could be extracted via the Windows built-in extraction tool,
Likewise, OnePlus has it under ZIP followed by payload.bin which could be extracted via the Fastboot Enhance Tool or using the Payload Dumper Tool which uses Python. If we turn our attention towards the proffering from the South Korean giant, then they seem to have taken a completely different route. Once you download the firmware via Frija or SamFw, it will be in a ZIP format.
However, upon extraction, you’ll get 5 firmware files, namely AP, BL, CP, CSC, and Home_CSC. These are packed in the .TAR.MD5 format and even though they aren’t your usual .IMG format partition files, you could directly flash them via the Odin Tool. With that said, there could be a few instances wherein you might want to extract these files. Fortunately, you can easily do so via the 7ZIP software.
While upon extraction, you’ll get the individual partition files, however, they will still not be in the generic IMG format. Instead, they will be in the .img.lz4 format. So you’ll again have to extract the .img.lz4 file to get the IMG file. And in this guide, we will show you how to do just that, taking boot and recovery as an example. So without further ado, let’s get started.
Where Can I Find boot.img.lz4/recovery.img.lz4 in Samsung Stock Firmware
This is the most important question that many of you might be thinking right now. Since the partition files aren’t visible after the extraction of firmware [you’ll only get AP, BL, CP, CSC, and Home_CSC files], so which out of the five files should you extract to get hold of the recovery and boot files? Well, you will have to extract the AP file from the Samsung stock firmware to get the boot.img.lz4 and recovery.img.lz4. So with that in mind, let’s show you how this process could be carried out.
- To begin with, download and install 7ZIP on your PC.
- Then download the firmware via Frija Tool or SamFw.
- Now extract it to get hold of the resultant firmware files.
- Then go to the extracted folder and right-click on AP file.
- Now select Show More Options > 7ZIP > Open Archive.
- Select boot.img.lz4 or recovery.img.lz4 and click Extract.
- Choose a location and hit OK. The file will be extracted.
With this, you have got the boot.img.lz4/recovery.img.lz4 file. Let’s now make you aware of the steps to extract this LZ4 and get the resultant IMG file. Follow along.
Extract boot.img.lz4/recovery.img.lz4 and get stock boot/recovery
- First off, download and extract the LZ4 Tool on your PC.
- Then transfer the boot or recovery.img.lz4 file to LZ4 Tool.
- Now drag and drop the boot/recovery.img.lz4 over to lz4.exe.
- The .img.lz4 file will be extracted and you’ll get the .img file.
That’s it. These were the steps to extract the boot.img.lz4 or the recovery.img.lz4 and get their resultant stock boot.img/recovery.img. If you have any queries concerning the aforementioned steps, do let us know in the comments. We will get back to you with a solution at the earliest.
