This guide will list the four different through which you could enable Band Selection Mode on your Samsung device. The smartphone is continuously scanning for the best possible available network [both in terms of speed and reliability/strength] and it then automatically makes the switch when a network better than what is currently being used is found.
However, there have been a few instances wherein the device tends to make a switch even when there wasn’t a need for the same. For instance, a device with full-strength 4G would be preferred any day of the week over a weak 5G network that barely does the job. However, some carriers seem to have been designed in such a way that as soon as they see the 5G signal, they automatically make a switch over to it, without respecting the other criteria, such as network stability, reliability, and strength.
So under such circumstances, your best bet is to manually select the desired band that you deem fit. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done in Samsung devices as the OEM has hidden this feature deep inside the OS, out of the reach of the general users. But fret not! In this guide, we will show you various workarounds using which you could enable the Band Selection Mode on your Samsung device and then choose the desired network. So without further ado, let’s get started.
How to Enable Band Selection Mode in Samsung
There exist four different methods that should help you get this job done. Go through each of them and then try out the one that is in sync with your requirements.
Using Dialer Code
This is the easiest of the four methods and just requires you to type in a code in the dialer. As soon as you do so, it shall bring up the network selection screen. You may then proceed with the on-screen instructions as explained below:
- Bring up the Dialer and type either of the two codes.
*#73# *#27663368378#
- It should open the ServiceMode > RF TEST screen.
- Select the first option, Band Selection, from the list
- Now select the appropriate SIM from the list.
- Dual SIM users would see two SIMs, so make the selection carefully.
- Then select Option 7 to Clear All Bands.
- Then check next to Option A (Block Set By AP) and a few others should now be removed
- Now select Option 8 twice to add additional bands.
- Likewise, doing so will also make the checkmarks re-appear.
- Then select Option 9 to Apply Band Configuration. You will get the APPLY DONE message.
- So tap on the overflow icon situated at the top right and select Key Input
- Then type in 0 in the space provided and hit OK. That’s it.
Via Protocol Simulation Menu
It is also possible to enable all band selection mode on your Samsung device via Protocol Simulation. In this method, we will be simulating a change in your CSC to GCF (Global Certification Forum). While this won’t actually change your CSC to GCF, but it will change the options in the service menu as if you were on GCF CSC, which should give you access to all SA and NSA bands [Credits: XDA Senior Member wr3cckl3ss1].
- To begin with, open the Service Mode via the below code:
*#27663368378#*
- Then go to Service Mode Main Menu -> PROTOCOL STATE.
- Now go to PROTOCOL SIMULATION -> IMEI PRE CFG SIMULATION.
- In this menu, click [1] AP, then click GCF.
- Then click [2] NET1 and change it to GCF.
- Do the same for [3] NET2. All GCF and finally Press [4] Write.
- Finally, restart your device and check out the results.
Using Third-Party App
You could also enable all the band selection modes on your Samsung device using a third-party app. The major benefit of this method is that you’ll get an easy UI to work on.
- Download and install the Samsung Band Selection app from the Play Store.
- Then launch the app and tap on the Launch Band Selection button.
- After that, tap on the hamburger menu situated at the top left and select Band Selection
- Now choose the desired band from the list.
- Finally, enable the Selection toggle present at the top right to make it the active band.
Via ADB Commands
Lastly, if you like to take a slightly technical route, then you may opt for the ADB Commands, the only caveat being the fact that you’ll have to take the help of a PC.
- Download and extract the Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Then head over to Settings > System > Developer Options > Enable USB Debugging.
- After that, connect your device to the PC via a USB cable.
- Now head over to the platform-tools folder, type in CMD in its address bar, and hit Enter. This will launch CMD.
- Type in the below command in this CMD window to open the shell environment
adb shell
- You might now get a prompt on your device, tap Allow.
- Then execute the below command to unlock the Band Selection Mode
am start -n com.samsung.android.app.telephonyui/com.samsung.android.app.telephonyui.hiddennetworksetting.MainActivity
- You will now be taken to the Network Selection Mode. Tap on the hamburger menu present at the top left and select Band Selection.
- Then choose the desired band from the list and enable the Selection toggle present at the top right to make it the active band.
That’s it. These were the four different methods through which you could enable the band selection mode on your Samsung device. All your questions regarding the aforementioned methods are welcomed in the comments section below.
